Tottenham fans cannot believe Kyle Walker-Peters’ comments about Mauricio Pochettino

Kyle Walker-Peters has claimed that he was not given a fair opportunity under Jose Mourinho at Tottenham and that if Mauricio Pochettino had remained in charge, he would not have left – which has left Spurs fans bemused on Twitter.

The 22-year-old made his debut for Tottenham under Pochettino and has since managed 24 senior appearances for the north Londoners. This season, he managed five appearances, before being loaned to Southampton in the January window.

Indeed, Mourinho has given preference to Serge Aurier on the right side of the defence – overlooking Walker-Peters. The England youth international was only used in a dead-rubber Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

Speaking to Southampton’s official website, defender Walker-Peters claimed he would still be at Tottenham had Pochettino remained in charge – despite the Argentine himself only handing Walker-Peters four 2019-20 appearances before his exit.

“I think had he stayed, I’d still be at Tottenham, I think that he showed his faith in me. Mourinho comes in and I get to play one game, but I didn’t really get an opportunity like I thought I would originally,” Walker-Peters said.

Walker-Peters’ quotes are even more susprising given the fact that he is due to return to Tottenham this summer, with his loan contract at Southampton not including a permanent clause. He has managed a solitary appearances.

The Evening Standard claim Southampton and Spurs could not agree on a fee, with the north Londoners rating him at £12million. Tottenham fans have reacted on Twitter to their defender’s comments, and the majority are stunned.
