Jason Cundy claimed on TalkSPORT that it was unfair on the rest of the Premier League for Tottenham Hotspur to move into their new stadium on April 3 – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter.
Cundy claimed that it was “farcical” that the Premier League have allowed his former side to relocate this late in the season. Spurs confirmed that they will play their first game at the new ground on April 3 against Crystal Palace.
Spurs have been waiting to move into their new home since the start of the season. It was believed last summer that it was only a matter of time before they could leave Wembley.
However, Spurs have had to wait due to complications – of which have cost Spurs a grand total of £850million. Cundy’s comments can be seen below.
“I think the Premier League have been kind to them,” Cundy said. “You can’t have two stadiums in the same season. You can understand if a team needs to play away from home to do repairs. Liverpool did it recently.
“But to allow them to move in now is farcical. I don’t think it’s fair to the league, to certain teams they are playing against. This is not a level playing field. For the sake of the competition, stay at Wembley.”
Relocating to the new ground will see Spurs be able to play in their Champions League quarter-final clash against Manchester City at the new 62,062 capacity stadium.
Tottenham fans have reacted on Twitter to Cundy’s comments, blasting the former Spurs and Chelsea man for his view. Fans are adamant that they are well within their rights to move to the new ground as soon as possible.
But if the stadium was built on time
& Spurs had moved in on time, they’d have had played at two home grounds in the same season, so what’s the difference?
This was all pre-agreed before a ball was kicked at the start of the season.
What’s the point of this discussion?
