Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has made it clear that midfielders Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso can play in the same starting XI – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have given an excited response to his comments.
Spurs, who are currently sat top of the Premier League table, have worked so effectively this season with a three-man set-up in midfield.
The most common combination this campaign in the league has been Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at the base of midfield, with Moussa Sissoko and Ndombele either side in box-to-box roles.
Ndombele, 23, has worked his way into the good books of the Portuguese manager to become a regular starter in the team and is showing why Spurs splashed out £53.8million (BBC) to get him from Lyon.
Meanwhile, 24-year-old left-footer Lo Celso has had to be a little more patient when it comes to starts despite shining in the Europa League group stages.

It looks like the duo are in direct competition for the most advanced central midfield position, but Mourinho has insisted that they can play together.
They are yet to start alongside each other in the same league XI so far this season, but the pair could add even more attacking firepower behind a potent frontline.
“Can they play together? Yes, they can. The physical condition for both is very important. To play with the two together, we need them to be fit and play with the right intensity. And they will play together. I’m not saying tomorrow or Sunday or next week but they will play together,” Mourinho said, as quoted by Football.London.
A selection of Spurs fans on social media are desperate to see a pairing of Ndombele and Lo Celso moving forward.
It looks unlikely that Mourinho would trial them together for Wednesday night’s Premier League showdown with second-placed Liverpool, but it’s something to keep an eye on moving forward.
