Antonio Conte has added Ryan Mason to the role of Tottenham Hotspur’s first-team coach before Thursday’s match – and Spurs fans are delighted.
Mason, 30, has been a part of Tottenham Hotspur for almost his entire life – joining the club at the age of eight as an academy player.
He went on to play 70 times at senior level for the North Londoners. He was sold, before a head injury saw the England international retire early.
Mason then returned to Spurs, from Hull, to take up a coaching role. He has continually grown on the coaching side – initially starting in the U-18 setup.
Head of Player Development at an academy level, Mason was then tasked with replacing Jose Mourinho on an interim basis last season.
He managed seven games, including the Carabao Cup final – winning four times. But he lost to Manchester City in the final, and two league games.

What are Tottenham fans saying, as Conte makes Mason decision?
With Conte announced on Tuesday, the Italian’s backoom staff was still an unknown before Thursday’s ECL clash against Vitesse Arnhem.
Not anymore. Spurs announced the news of Conte’s backroom staff on their website, with Mason given the role as first-team coach.
Impressive, given it is Conte’s staff – and that it is a senior role at a big club aged just 30. Cristian Stellini is assistant, as expected.
The majority of Conte’s coaching staff follow him from Inter Milan. Many Tottenham fans have given their reaction – delighted Mason is involved.
