Tottenham fans applaud Oliver Skipp for his England Under-21s display

Oliver Skipp played during England’s Under-21s match on Thursday afternoon – and some Tottenham fans were left raving about his performance.

Skipp, 20, is a Spurs player that is currently out on a season-long loan with Championship leaders Norwich City, and is making a great impression at Carrow Road.

The central midfielder completed 90 minutes today in a European Under-21 Championship group stage match.

Aidy Boothroyd’s Young Lions ended up on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline, with Dan Ndoye scoring a fortunate winner for Switzerland’s Under-21s in the 77th minute.

It was a young England team stacked with individuals that play in the top division, but they lacked a cutting edge

They will hope to turn things around this weekend when they face Portugal, before a match against Croatia next Wednesday.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media did find joy from the individual contribution of Skipp though despite England’s tournament defeat.

He’s a no-nonsense defensive midfielder that kept in tidy in the centre of the park alongside Everton’s Tom Davies and was accurate with his passes, but the side couldn’t find a creative spark.

Once he returns in the summer from his loan at Norwich, it’ll be interesting to see if he can force his way into Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans.
