Tottenham fans angry at Mauricio Pochettino for his comments on Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris has received a very formal backing from his manager Mauricio Pochettino – and many Tottenham fans on Twitter have been left fuming by his comments.

It’s not often that Spurs fans disagree with their boss Pochettino, but some feel he’s got it extremely wrong when it comes to their goalkeeper.

Lloris once again made an individual error in the defeat to Liverpool at the weekend and he’s made several blips throughout the campaign to suggest he is on the decline.

The 32-year-old club captain has not quite been the same since winning the World Cup with France in the summer and has been prone to a mistake.

Pochettino has shown great support for the shot-stopper ahead of the club’s next game on Wednesday night, as Spurs play their first match in a new stadium and the Frenchman will once again start in goal against Crystal Palace.

“He is my captain, he is one of the best keepers in the world,” Pochettino said, as quoted by BBC Sport. “That is not in doubt. Hugo is one of the best and he is going to be in goal tomorrow. It is a situation that is so painful because we deserved more.

“We have to be strong and back our players. Hugo is going to be great for us and will be one of the most important players for the future of the club.”

A selection of Spurs fans on social media believe that Pochettino is wrongly loyal to the number one goalkeeper and some want him dropped from the team.

Paulo Gazzaniga can consider himself unfortunate as the number two goalkeeper, as he has barely put a foot wrong whenever he’s played and his distribution out from the back is exceptional.

The pressure is certainly mounting on Lloris though and he needs to try justify Pochettino sticking his neck on the line for him.
