Darren Bent has claimed on TalkSPORT on Tuesday that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a better boss than Tottenham Hotspur icon Mauricio Pochettino – prompting reaction from Andros Townsend and Spurs supporters.
Bent, a renowned Arsenal fan – despite playing for Tottenham during his playing career – is renowned for being somewhat outspoken and has now made another claim after Pochettino appeared on Sky Sports during Monday Night Football.
Arteta has impressed since swapping the assistant manager role at Manchester City, for Arsenal. He has won the FA Cup and Community Shield since taking over from Unai Emery – and has pushed the Gunners in with a shout of the top four.
But Pochettino took Tottenham from a Europa League side into an established Champions League club on a shoestring budget, getting the best out of Dele Alli, Harry Kane and others. They even reached the 2019 Champions League final.

Bent, though, thinks Arteta is better: “I don’t think he’s world class. Elite managers – Klopp, Guardiola, even Ancelotti. I can’t put Pochettino in that bracket, he’s not won anything. A Champions League final? That’s not world class management.
“I think he’s good but I would put Brendan Rodgers ahead of him, excellent coach. Arteta is a better coach than Pochettino. Daniel Levy still needed someone to win them trophies and felt like Pochettino could not do that.”
Pochettino stated that he is ready to return to management after the best part of a year on the sidelines, but stated he is waiting for the right opportunity. The Argentine continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United.
Tottenham supporters have reacted in their drones, questioning former striker Bent for his comments on Arteta and Pochettino – as did Townsend, who suggested Bent was in the wrong. Jamie O’Hara responded by laughing.
