Tottenham booked their spot in the Carabao Cup final with a home victory against Brentford on Tuesday night – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter applauded their midfielder Moussa Sissoko for his individual performance.

Spurs dispatched Championship opponents Brentford 2-0 in the semi-finals, meaning they will face either Manchester United or Manchester City in April’s final.

Sissoko opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a rare goal, netting for the first time since December 2019 with a header from a Sergio Reguilon cross.

Despite some scares from an eye-catching Brentford side, in-form attacker Heung-Min Son secured progress in the cup with an emphatic finish one-on-one in the 70th minute.

Jose Mourinho was appointed Spurs boss with the hope he could end their long wait for silverware and they are now just one match away from winning a first trophy since the League Cup in 2008.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media singled out Sissoko for his performance in the centre of the park against Brentford, with some suggesting it was his best display in a long time.

The 31-year-old Frenchman was recalled to the starting XI for the cup tie, where he managed to break the deadlock for his side, as well as show great energy and quality in possession.
