Slovakia suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sweden on Friday afternoon as Emil Forsberg’s late penalty was enough to secure three points. That is, despite an excellent performance from Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar at the back. Tottenham fans raved about the defender on Twitter.
Skriniar’s Slovakia went into the match having secured an excellent 2-1 away win over Poland in their first game. The expectation at this tournament is that with four of the six third-placed sides going into the last 16, four points will do the trick. But Slovakia were far too negative.
Eventually, Sweden made the breakthrough. Substitute Robin Quaison won a penalty which was expertly tucked into the corner by Forsberg. However, Slovakia’s defenders were good throughout – Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka making numerous excellent saves. But Skriniar was by far their best.
