Tottenham fans amazed by brilliant first-half moment from defender in narrow win over Watford on Sunday
Tottenham made it three wins from three against Watford – and Spurs fans applauded Eric Dier for a crucial moment in the first half on Sunday.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side went top of the Premier League as Son Heung-min’s free kick evaded all, eventually curling into the far corner.
But it could have been very different. Both sides had numerous chances, Harry Kane perhaps should have had a penalty in the first minute.
However, it was another instance in the first minute that saw Tottenham fans delighted on Twitter. Watford came forward, and almost scored.
Moussa Sissoko got a start just a matter of a few days after leaving Tottenham for Watford, and he laid off midfielder Juraj Kucka.
Kucka had a first-time shot that looked destined for the net, curling into the far corner of Hugo Lloris’ goal. But Dier had other ideas.
What are Tottenham fans saying about Dier and his block on Sunday?
The £72,000-a-week (Spotrac) defender was in the perfect position to put his head on the line, in the six-yard box, and deflect the ball out for a corner.
It was a brave bit of defending given the pace of the shot, but equally as crucial – keeping Tottenham’s clean sheet intact by blocking.
Dier, 27, has come in for criticism over the last couple of seasons. Struggling under the likes of Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino.
But if early signs are anything to go by, his form under Nuno is signs of a rejuvenated defender. Tottenham fans raved about Dier and his block.
