Tottenham defender Juan Foyth has indicated he’s prepared to fight for the right-back position this season – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have responded by urging him to remain a centre-back.
The defender is beginning to force his way into first-team contention on a more regular basis and he played 17 senior games last season across all competitions.
He is a centre-back by trade that is composed in possession and built in a similar mould as Toby Alderweireld, but the 21-year-old has a long way to emulate his teammate.
Foyth did though play at full-back on a couple occasions last term for the North London club and that continued this summer with Argentina at the Copa America.
The youngster has claimed he will be prepared to fight for both central and wide defensive positions at Spurs this season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are a man short at right-back following Kieran Trippier’s move to Atletico Madrid, but Kyle Walker-Peters and Serge Aurier remain options.
“I’m trying to learn in every position I play and [take on board] what the gaffer says to me,” Foyth told the Evening Standard.
“But I don’t know if this is going to be my position or centre-back this season – I can play both and I like both.
“It’s nice to play two positions as you can have more opportunities. I think it’ll help. I will try to compete in both positions.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media are strongly against Foyth developing into a full-time full-back and believe his skills are in the heart of defence.
His versatility is certainly a useful skill to be available to Pochettino, but it may make more sense to try focus on his development as a centre-back and improving the defensive side of his game.
