Tottenham fan favourite Erik Lamela can finally shake off flop tag this season

Tottenham Hotspur found form last night with a resounding 5-0 win over Red Star Belgrade in London.

Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane bagged a brace apiece as Tottenham completely outplayed the Serbian side.

But one of the star players of the night was one of the only Tottenham players who has been impressing amid the club’s recent dip in form.

Erik Lamela, in his 200th appearance for Tottenham, provided two assists and scored one as he lived up to his fan favourite status.

Whilst the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli have recently struggled for form, Lamela has stepped up and this might finally be the season he truly becomes a Tottenham star.

Considering Lamela joined Tottenham in 2013 it is remarkable he has only just reached 200 appearances for the club. His time at Spurs has been plagued by injuries. After costing a fee reported (BBC) to be in the region of £30 million as a potential Gareth Bale replacement, he was often labelled a flop early on.

His third season at the club offered a glimpse of his talent but since then he has become a well-like but hardly star attraction for Spurs.

Now, at 27-years-old, the Argentine looks fitter and sharper than he has ever been at Spurs.

His performance yesterday took his tally to three goals and three assists this season. But when he is on form, Tottenham invariably perform well.

He was on fire last night, pivotal in the 4-0 crushing of Crystal Palace last month and he bagged a goal and assist in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City in the second game of the season.

Lamela might be playing his way into undroppable territory with his current form. After the injury trouble he has suffered, Tottenham fans would love it if the popular Argentine had a career-best season in 2019-20.
