Tottenham eyeing 22-year-old ‘midfield destroyer’ likened to N’Golo Kante

Tottenham Hotspur have hit the ground running in the January transfer window, with one signing over the line and another one on the way.

Spurs have landed Timo Werner on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig with option to buy, while Genoa’s Radu Dragusin looks set to join soon.

Tottenham have also been linked with a new midfielder, and one report has been doing the rounds saying Spurs are also after Morten Frendrup.

In his latest transfer update for GiveMeSport, transfer insider Dean Jones claimed that Tottenham’s dealings with Genoa ‘may not be over’.

He claimed that Spurs’ scouts have been left impressed with Frendrup while watching Dragusin.

Admittedly, Jones did add that Tottenham would continue to monitor the 22-year-old throughout the rest of the season.

This suggests a summer move may be on the cards rather than in January. Nonetheless, it looks as though the interest is there.

Tottenham target Morten Frendrup ‘does the simple stuff to perfection’

Tottenham would be getting a great young player in Frendrup. At just 22 years of age, he already has 71 appearances for Genoa and 93 for previous club Brondby.

Frendrup is a versatile player who can play in central midfield, defensive midfield, and has even featured on the left wing.

A guest article on Football Talent Scout in 2022 described the Dane’s many positive traits and skills, likening him to N’Golo Kante.

‘His ability to read the game is very impressive, and he will make a lot of interceptions during a game,’ they wrote.

‘He is also quite fast, which allows him to often track down his opponents that are looking to create chances.

‘He is not your flashy midfielder, but he does the simple stuff to perfection. His stamina is impressive, and he is physically strong.

‘He is also capable of driving the ball forward because of his pace and agility.’

Meanwhile, Jacek Kulig described Frendrup as a “high-quality midfield destroyer” on X last year.

All in all, Frendrup looks like a good shout for Tottenham, who may as well enquire now how much Genoa want for the midfielder.
