Tottenham Hotspur full-back Sergio Reguilon has reportedly seen his loan spell at Manchester United come to an end.

The Spurs defender will return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium due to slipping down the pecking order at Old Trafford, according to The Athletic.

David Ornstein claims that Man United have triggered a break clause to cut short Reguilon‘s loan and send him back to Tottenham.

The 27-year-old Spurs full-back joined Man United in September following injuries to first-choice left-back Luke Shaw and regular back-up Tyrell Malacia.

However, Shaw is back to fitness and Malacia is now nearing a return. In addition, Man United are out of the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

With all that in mind, Reguilon likely would’ve struggled to add to his 12 appearances for the Red Devils going forward, and they have reportedly decided to cut his loan spell short.

Reguilon made a decent impact at Man United in his short time at the club, and a number of their fans are sad to see him go.

In addition, Tottenham need cover on the left, so it’s pretty good news for Spurs in terms of their strength in depth.

However, Tottenham also have the option to send Reguilon out on loan again if they so wish.

The left-footed Spaniard has only appeared for Man United this season. Under FIFA rules, this means he could still play for another club.

Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks. Ange Postecoglou is a coach that likes to give players a chance. He may well look at Reguilon in training and decide what to do in the final week of January.

Reguilon is a player with ‘incredible‘ talent and potential, who sadly hasn’t quite been able to make his mark at Tottenham just yet. Let’s see whether this could change in 2024.
