Tottenham defender Eric Dier believes Erik Lamela deserves praise for his performance against Brighton, despite the usual focus on the likes of Harry Kane and Gareth Bale.
Spurs won out in the end, as Bale’s late header sealed all three points against a resilient Seagulls side who, in fairness, had a lot of the ball throughout the game.

Bale got the winner after replacing former Roma winger Lamela. Coincidentally, Lamela was signed with the money Spurs originally got for Bale when he moved to Real Madrid.
And Dier, speaking after the game, believes the Argentinian star offers Tottenham something else in attack.
“I think we have a lot of depth. We also have Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura and Lamela who I thought was fantastic today again, the effort he puts in is incredible. We’ve got a lot of options up front to do different things,” Dier said. (Football.London)
Lamela came close to getting a goal of his own just being subbed, firing just wide from the edge of the box.

Along with the likes of Berwijn and Lucas, Lamela knows that there is only one spot to compete for in the front three, with Kane and Son both automatic starters for Jose Mourinho.
Surprising comments but Lamela did put the work in – TBR View
Lamela’s performance wasn’t anything special in terms of quality and end product but the same could be said for a number of Spurs players last night.
However, as recognised by Dier, the effort levels were there from the winger, so nobody can deny he put the work in.
Lamela’s problem is that Bales came on and influenced the outcome of the game. That’s something he’s struggled to do consistently and probably why we’ll see Bale starting more games than not soon.
