Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has revealed that his injury “doesn’t look good”.
Journalist Jonathan Veal revealed that Davies walked past on crutches with a protective boot over his foot. He picked up an ankle injury against West Ham and he has confirmed that he will be out for “a while”.
Davies reportedly told Mr Veal (via @jonathandveal83): “It doesn’t look good. It will be a while.”
The Wales international might miss a number of games for Spurs in the coming weeks. This will be a blow for him personally as he was named in Jose Mourinho’s first starting line-up.
Davies performed well against West Ham but missed the midweek win over Olympiacos. In his absence, Danny Rose was recalled to the starting line-up. The battle between those two rumbles on.
Davies’ injury is a major blow for Tottenham because he was threatening to show why he should be the permanent starter. Mourinho appeared to prefer him over the other options so he will be disappointed to miss out on the chance to secure a starting spot.
In his absence, there are other options. Mourinho has previously tried to sign Rose so he will relish the chance to work with him. But if the England left-back’s poor form continues, it might be time to turn to Jan Vertonghen or Ryan Sessegnon.
