Tottenham defender Ben Davies criticised by fans after mistake on Wales duty

Wales went down 1-0 away from home against Hungary last night leaving them fourth in their qualification group for the 2020 European Championships at the halfway stage.

Mate Patkai’s goal ten minutes from time clinched the victory and Tottenham defender Ben Davies was partially at fault.

Sky Sports reported last week that the £60,000 a week (Spotrac) Spurs ace postponed surgery on a groin injury in order to link up with Ryan Giggs’ squad.

So perhaps he was showing signs of that injury after a long season with Tottenham, but the supporters did not feel he was at his best last night.

Plenty of them took to Twitter to express their displeasure with Davies’ display, despite the fact that he has been one of Wales’ best players during their recent resurgence.

There’s still perhaps confusion over whether Davies’ best role is at left back or centre half – and he has played both roles for his country – but this one was a night to forget for the defender.
