Tottenham could target Gvardiol if Conte stays in charge - journalist
There is a big question mark over Conte’s future in North London. It is fair to say that not everything has gone to plan for the Italian this season. And the fans would be forgiven for starting to doubt whether he will be the man to end their current run without a trophy.
But there is no question that Tottenham will always have real potential while Conte is in charge. And with that, they may be hoping to lure some big names to the club over the coming months.
Tottenham could make Gvardiol move if Conte stays in charge
One of the biggest names on their radar has to be Gvardiol. The Croatian has established himself as one of the most exciting defenders in the world.
He stood out at the World Cup, helping his nation to third place. And it seems likely that he is going to have all of Europe’s heavyweights after him this summer.
Jones has suggested that Tottenham could be in the mix, but it may depend on what the future holds for Conte in North London.
“Essentially, we need to see how this season plays out first,” he told Give Me Sport.
“See whether Antonio Conte stays in charge. See whether Fabio Paratici is still pulling the strings and can make something like this happen.
“It’s always been a case that Tottenham have had an interest in him.”
There are not many potential signings around right now which would represent bigger statements of intent than a move for Gvardiol.
He would be an outstanding addition for a Spurs defence which undoubtedly needs more quality. Of course, Clement Lenglet is only at the club on loan. And he has been unable to pull up any trees since arriving from Barcelona.
Replacing him with Gvardiol would be quite something. But clearly, a lot has to fall into place for that to happen.
