Report: Tottenham now want to sign international 'jewel' to push summer spend beyond £100m

Tottenham Hotspur have spent good money this summer but they could be about to move for another player, this time in the form of Nicola Zalewski.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Antonio Conte is ‘crazy’ about Zalewski and has instructed Fabio Paratic to go out and sign the young Polish midfielder. Zalewski has been a key player for Roma despite being just 20 and has been described as Roma’s ‘jewel’ by the Italian media.

The Express adds that Jose Mourinho is not too keen on letting Zalewski leave Rome though. But that might not matter, with Tottenham going all out this summer to bring in the players Antonio Conte wants to strengthen his team.

Spurs have already spent around £100m on new faces. Richarlison and Yves Bissouma have arrived for big money, while Djed Spence, Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Clement Lenglet have all arrived as well. Should Zalewski follow those players, it would push Tottenham’s summer spending way beyond the £100m barrier.

Zalewski is already a full Polish international having made five appearances for his country. He made 16 Serie A appearances last season, and can play in all positions down the left if needed.

TBR’s View: Zalewski One To Watch For Tottenham

Rated highly by Jose Mourinho and clearly admired by Antonio Conte, there is a lot to like about Nicola Zalewski.

The 20-year-old seems to have a bit of everything in his game and that ability to play all down the left-hand side could be a big factor. Of course, Spurs already have Sessegnon and Perisic down that side, while Sergio Reguilon is expected to leave.

Zalewski is one of Italy’s best up and coming young players and there’s no doubt he’d improve this Spurs squad.
