Tottenham Hotspur may soon need a new right-back.
Emerson Royal’s links to AC Milan aren’t going away, and if the Brazilian does head to San Siro, he will need replacing.
Speaking on Last Word on Spurs, Ben Jacobs has shared some insight into Tottenham’s plans in that area, and he says that AS Monaco’s Vanderson is someone to keep an eye on.
The journalist says that Vanderson is an excellent player who could be available for around €40m (£35m), and there is concrete substance between Spurs and the right-back.
Tottenham could go for Vanderson
Jacobs shared what he knows about the Monaco star.
“The more concrete substance is in Vanderson. An excellent player who is currently at AS Monaco who will become a very firm option if Emerson Royal leaves,” Jacobs said.
“Monaco are looking for between €35-40m and Tottenham could be able to fund that if they get the kind of fee they’re looking for from Emerson.”

Vanderson could replace Pedro Porro
As much as Vanderson is being framed as an Emerson Royal replacement here, don’t be shocked if he replaces Pedro Porro in the Tottenham starting XI.
As Jacobs says, Vanderson is an excellent player, and you don’t spend £35m on a new right-back just to stick him on the bench.
Make no mistake about it, this signing would be made to compete and push Pedro Porro rather than to simply play second-fiddle.
Porro had some excellent spells last season, but, much like many of his teammates, he petered off towards the end of the campaign, and if he doesn’t buck up his ideas, he could lose his spot in the team to a player like Vanderson.
Of course, a number of dominoes need to fall before this deal happens, but, by the sounds of it, Tottenham could well land Vanderson this summer.
