Tottenham could reportedly sign Jamie Redknapp once likened to Michael Carrick

Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly sign Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff after the young English ace switched agents to Pini Zahavi – and Jamie Redknapp once compared him to ex-Spurs star Michael Carrick.

Longstaff, 23, has broken back into Newcastle’s side of late – starting and finishing the Toon’s last four Premier League games. He looks set to enter the last 18 months of his contract on Tyneside, though.

The Daily Mail claim Tottenham could take advantage. It is believed Longstaff has taken on Pini Zahavi as his agent – widely renowned for sorting big-money moves with Europe’s biggest sides. Longstaff could now be on his way.

Indeed, the report claims Zahavi, 77, has informed sources close to Longstaff that he could secure a move for the uncapped English ace – and Jamie Redknapp claimed in February 2019 that Longstaff played a lot like Carrick.

“He reminds me of Michael Carrick. He’s got that nice stance and the way he plays, always looking to pass the ball to a black and white shirt. That’s a massive asset to have. He can score goals too,” Redknapp said, as per the Chronicle.

TBR’s view – Surely Tottenham can do better than Longstaff?

A good player and it his best, Longstaff has been linked with Manchester United. Young, English and boasting plenty of technical ability. But he has failed to replicate the form that saw him shine when he first emerged in the Toon side.

Right now, Spurs boast Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Gio Lo Celso – while Oliver Skipp is on loan at Norwich. Tanguy Ndombele can also play deeper in midfield. Do Spurs need Longstaff? Probably not.
