Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne is reportedly open to joining Tottenham this summer if Daniel Levy is willing to appoint Maurizio Sarri as Jose Mourinho’s replacement – a player that Mauricio Pochettino wanted in 2016.

Ex-Chelsea, and Napoli boss Sarri worked for some time with Insigne during his 148 games in charge of the Italian club and the duo struck up a close relationship. Sarri is without a club, but is being linked with Spurs and Roma.

Speaking to Area Napoli, Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia claimed that Insigne is open to leaving Napoli and Sarri’s next club could determine where Insigne ends up. The report says he would be open to joining Tottenham or Roma.

Back in 2016 when Pochettino was still at the Tottenham helm, then Catania-chairman Pietro Lo Monaco was quoted by Football Italia as saying that Pochettino had told Lo Monaco that he was “crazy” about Insigne.

“Insigne is the complete package for a wide player,” Lo Monaco said five years ago, as per Football Italia. “I spoke to Tottenham and I know for certain that Pochettino is crazy about Insigne.”

TBR’s view – Insigne and a new centre-back takes Tottenham to CL

The top four is nearly out of reach for Spurs this season, but sorting out a centre-back and bringing in a permanent right winger to combine with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min could take Spurs back into title contention.

Spurs need a centre-back and might even need two with Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez all struggling this term. Sorting out that area, perhaps a new right-back, and a right winger is crucial.

Insigne can play on the right and alongside Kane and Son, he would help Spurs take a massive step towards the top four this summer. Whether Levy is willing to bring in Sarri, though, remains to be seen.
