Tottenham could now sign the next Son Heung-min for less than £25m

Tottenham Hotspur have struck gold in the transfer market multiple times in recent years.

The likes of Destiny Udogie, Pape Matar Sarr and Guglielmo Vicario have all joined Spurs under the radar for modest fees, and all three have become regular starters.

However, it can be argued that Tottenham’s biggest transfer success in relatively recent times took place just under a decade ago.

Back in 2015, Spurs signed Son Heung-min for just £22million. The South Korea international is now the club captain and has 408 appearances, 162 goals and 82 assists to his name.

Although the 31-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down, Tottenham will likely be mindful that, in years to come, they’ll need to think about a long-term replacement.

However, Spurs may well be on the case already. In recent days, they have been linked with a player whose style of play has been likened to that of Son.

Tottenham scouting Baris Alper Yilmaz

The player in question is Baris Alper Yilmaz, who plies his trade for Galatasaray and is representing Turkey at Euro 2024.

Turkish journalist Ugur Karakullukcu recently claimed that Tottenham scouts were watching the 24-year-old in action against Czechia.

“Manchester United and Tottenham both scouted Baris Alper in the Czechia v Turkey match,” he said on YouTube.

“I had it confirmed. If he continues like this, it seems that they will continue to watch it.”

Baris Alper Yilmaz likened to Son Heung-min

In 2021, Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig compared Yilmaz to Son Heung-min, saying the Spurs icon is a similar type of player.

He listed pace, dribbling, finishing, technique, ball control and athleticism as Yilmaz’s strengths, and gave him a potential rating of 8 out of 10.

Yilmaz was also linked with Spurs earlier this year, with Turkish outlet Sabah also sharing opinions on the player from journalists.

One of them, Ali Gultiken, describes the forward as a ‘game changer’, who has undergone ‘tremendous development’ and can perform wherever he plays.

He has featured as left-back, right-back, right winger and left winger. This kind of versatility is especially important in the Premier League these days, making him a great option for Tottenham.

Better still, CaughtOffside have reported that Galatasaray have placed a price tag of around £21million on Yilmaz. This would make him an affordable option for Spurs in their pursuit of Son’s successor.

Tottenham have been linked with a number of top talents in recent months, and it will be good to see who comes in through the door at N17 ahead of transfer deadline day.
