Tottenham could now reportedly sign 'one of the best midfielders in history'

Tottenham Hotspur could now reportedly sign Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante – who was labelled as ‘one of the best midfielders in history’ by Moussa Sissoko.

Foot Mercato reported yesterday that Chelsea are not prioritising extending Kante’s contract at this moment in time, with his deal set to expire next summer.

The outlet notes that Kante is keen to stay in London and as a result, both Arsenal and Tottenham are possible options for him.

The Frenchman has been one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League over the past 10 years. The 31-year-old won the league with Leicester City and then went on to do the same with Chelsea, under current Spurs boss Antonio Conte.

Kante has also picked up a World Cup and Champions League title in that time period. And Spurs cult hero, Moussa Sissoko, once labelled the Chelsea man as the toughest opponent he’s ever faced.

Speaking to Watford’s official YouTube channel after leaving Spurs last year, Sissoko labelled Kante as one of the best midfielders ever.

“I will say Kante,” Sissoko stated when asked about his toughest Premier League opponent.

“What he’s doing on the pitch, he’s a joke. For me, he’ll be one of the best midfielders in history.

“You sometimes think you’ve passed him, but you see him passing through you, and he’s quick.”

Tottenham could sign Kante

It seems like a no-brainer for Spurs to at least explore if signing Kante next summer is possible.

Conte worked with the Frenchman during his time at Stamford Bridge and the pair won a Premier League title together. The Italian certainly managed to get the best out of Kante and the player even admitted this when speaking to Chelsea’s official website last year.

He said: “With Antonio Conte in the period we won more than 10 games in a row.

“At that time when we were going on the pitch we were very confident, the team were playing very well, we managed to dominate our opponents and to win.

“I felt very good on the pitch. That was a beautiful time.”

Conte would probably love to reunite with the midfielder and if reports are true that he would like to stay in London, it may become a reality.

It would seemingly become a straight shootout between Arsenal and Spurs. But Tottenham could have the upperhand due to Kante’s history with Conte.
