Tottenham could now reportedly sign the next Thierry Henry for less than £10m, he's 'phenomenal'
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the likes of Arsenal in the race to sign Marcus Thuram.
According to 90min, Spurs want the Frenchman ahead of the final months of his current contract.
Tottenham apparently had scouts watching Thuram and Youssoufa Moukoko in action last Friday.
Thuram scored Monchengladbach’s third goal of the evening, taking his tally in the Bundesliga to 10 for the season.
He has since been named in Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the World Cup.
Better yet for Tottenham, Thuram’s contract expires in the summer.
He’ll be free to talk to clubs outside of Germany from as early as January.
Tottenham could potentially land a player who Arsene Wenger compared to Thierry Henry for a bargain fee.
Wenger told Der Spiegel two years ago: “Thierry Henry had the timing of the smartest footballers.
“He was also very strong physically, and technically he could do everything.
“In fact, there’s a player in the Bundesliga who reminds me of him – Marcus Thuram from Borussia Monchengladbach.”
Last summer, The Athletic reported that Gladbach were looking for £10m-15m for their forward.
With Thuram’s contract now even closer to expiring, that fee could well be even less, unless a bidding war occurs.
Spurs target Marcus Thuram – style of play
As with most Bundesliga players, the official league website does a great job of providing analysis on their players.
“Thuram may be slightly taller than (Anthony Martial) and possess a bulkier frame, but that makes him no less dangerous than his fellow Frenchman of Guadeloupean descent,” they wrote last year.
“Indeed, he has made France’s Euro 2020 squad ahead of him.
“Quick, direct and with the upper body strength to brush opponents out of the way, the sight of Gladbach’s new man running at you is enough to make any defender reconsider their profession.”
“Crazy” and “phenomenal”
Dennis Zakaria praised Thuram in 2019 after he scored a late winner against Roma in the Europa League.
“It was so important that Marcus scored that goal today,” said Zakaria, via Bulinews.
“He is a great guy, a little crazy maybe, but what he brings to the pitch is phenomenal.”
