Tottenham should consider bringing in a new centre-back to their ranks for the future and RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano is a potential gem that would be a great target.

According to the Daily Mirror on their transfer blog (03:46am, 11 December), Premier League club Southampton have the 20-year-old on their transfer radar for January.

The report details that he’s got a price tag of £30million, which has come about due to his impressive performances in the Bundesliga.

Upamecano is an upcoming talent making a name for himself in Germany and is already a regular for the France Under-21 international side.

The centre-back could be the perfect fit for the English league due to his pace and athleticism, while he’s got massive potential to reach an elite level as he develops.

He has already featured in 16 games across all competitions for RB Leipzig this season and has racked up experience in European football.

Upamecano has great speed for a centre-back that helps him in defensive situations and is strong on the ball too.

Southampton have a knack of finding brilliant young talents across European football, with Spurs and Liverpool two of the main clubs to benefit from buying players from St Mary’s.

Spurs should try beat them to the punch this time and Upamecano could be a great long-term option alongside young centre-backs Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez already in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
