Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld could reportedly leave the club in the summer.
According to the Mirror, Spurs are “resigned” to losing the centre-back for £26million at the end of the season and Manchester United re looking to push their way to the front of the queue for his signature.
It is understood that the North London club will have no option but to sell him when he enters the final year of his deal, as his £26million release clause will become active.
The 30-year-old is still one of the outstanding defenders in the Premier League and potentially losing him ahead of next season would be a major blow.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino would be left with a serious headache over how to go about replacing him and in truth it would take a colossal sum of money to sign someone of his calibre.
The Belgium international has been such a consistent performer in recent years and is so difficult to beat one-on-one.
Pochettino will be left with trying to figure out how to fill his void and he does have some strong young options in his squad.
Davinson Sanchez is a real talent that at times looks the finished article, but is still raw at times and needs time to mature.
Meanwhile, Juan Foyth has a similar style to Alderweireld in the way he plays out from the back and commands in the air.
But the 21-year-old is certainly a working project and is going to need years to get on the world-class level.
