Tottenham don’t have a lot to do on transfer deadline day, but they could yet pull a surprise.
The North Londoners have done a great job in this window. They completed most of the signings they wanted before the Premier League season began, and they are in a strong position now.
A quiet day is expected at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with respect to incomings, but outgoings are a definite possibility.
Dan Kilpatrick has shared the latest on The Standard’s deadline-day live blog.
Tottenham’s deadline day plan for Giovani Lo Celso
It is clear at this point that Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon don’t have a future at Tottenham.
The Argentine was signed by Mauricio Pochettino in 2019, and he was viewed by many as a ‘phenomenal‘ player for Spurs.
However, for one reason or another, things just haven’t worked out.
Reguilon arrived at Tottenham a year after Lo Celso when Jose Mourinho was at the helm. He too was viewed as an excellent signing, but his drop-off has arguably been worse than the Argentine’s.
Tottenham are desperate to move both Reguilon and Lo Celso out of the door, and Kilpatrick claims that Spurs prefer permanent exits.
However, if the North Londoners receive loan offers for either player, their plan is to extend their contracts and send them out for the season in order to protect their value.
As things stand, however, Tottenham are ‘reluctant’ to agree to a loan.

Which clubs could sign Lo Celso and Reguilon?
Lo Celso and Reguilon’s futures have been uncertain for a long time now.
The midfielder featured under Postecoglou at times in the 2023/24 season and showed flashes of his brilliance. But, with the arrival of Lucas Bergvall and co, his time is up.
Reports have claimed that West Ham want to sign Lo Celso, while the Argentina international’s former club, Real Betis, are also in talks to sign Lo Celso.
As for Reguilon, Besiktas have shown an interest, but it remains to be seen if they can meet Spurs’ demands.
