Tottenham chased £40m-rated Grealish but would £5m-rated Bowen have been better?
Tottenham Hotspur failed to sign a single player in the summer transfer window.
But for much of the summer, they were chasing £40m-rated Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish, according to various newspapers such as The Daily Mail.
Grealish is a talented young attacking midfielder, who had racked up three goals and six assists last season.
After failing to lead financially troubled Aston Villa to promotion, it looked certain that he would move but his £40m price tag seemed to put potential suitors off.
But should Tottenham have looked at a much cheaper alternative in Jarrod Bowen?
At Hull City last season, the lively young winger scored 14 goals compared to Grealish’s three, while registering one assist.
And Bowen has followed up his exceptional form this season as well.
At struggling Hull, the 21-year-old has netted six goals and provided three assists in 22 games, while Grealish has scored twice and picked up four assists in 22 games.
Bowen is one year younger than Grealish and a recent report by The Sun indicated that Fulham and Cardiff are chasing the £5m-rated winger.
For a younger player who has a better goal record in the Championship, should Spurs have moved for £5m Bowen instead of £40m Grealish?
Both players are exceptionally talented and could be playing at the top level but it seems Bowen just has marginally better end product for now.
