Tottenham can’t let West Ham beat them in race for potential Dembele replacement Meite

Tottenham and West Ham are both keen on the signature of Soualiho Meïté from Torino this summer, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, as reported by Sport Witness.

They report that Spurs are still in the market for a replacement for Mousa Dembele, after failing to bring somebody in in place of him in January.

Meite’s impressive form in Serie A this season has reportedly earned him a pricetag of up to 30 million euros (£25.7m), and he has also apparently attracted interest from West Ham now too.

Injuries to the likes of Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez have left Manuel Pellegrini short on midfield options and they have the financial might to compete for Meite.

But if Tottenham do want Meite to replace Dembele, they cannot afford to let West Ham sneak ahead of them in the race.

A lack of squad depth has been Tottenham’s undoing at times this season and that makes it imperative that they get their top targets in a summer during which they need to loosen the pursestrings that have been so, so tight since Lucas Moura’s arrival in January 2018.

It would be a blow to Spurs’ ambitions to see their close rivals get the better of them for a player in a position in which they both need reinforcements as much as each other.
