Tottenham can use Juventus’ Asensio bid to land reported target Douglas Costa

Juventus want to boosst their wide options with the signing of Marco Asensio during the summer transfer window, according to Italian outlet Tuttosport.

They report that the Italian champions want to sign the Spanish international, who is still struggling to make himself a first-team regular at the Bernabeu.

And that could open the door for the departure of Douglas Costa, for whom Calcio Mercato reported last week Juve would listen to offers in the region of £45m, with Tottenham loitering with interest.

So it could actually be that Asensio – with whom the Guardian linked Tottenham in December 2018 – helps Spurs sign this summer’s wide target Costa.

And though Asensio’s potential may make him a more exciting prospect than Costa, the Brazilian is an exceptional wideman of pace, directness and skill.

His performances at Bayern have long indicated that he is someone who could absolutely tear up the Premier League, cutting in from the right or making life hell for full-backs on the left.

Lucas Moura has had a huge impact at Spurs by offering sheer speed and a threat in behind and his countryman Costa could have similar success, if Mauricio Pochettino can use Juve’s transfer plans for Asensio to his advantage.
