Tottenham Hotspur should fight for Nicolas Pepe this summer and give themselves a new Gareth Bale in the process.
Pepe has been in sizzling form for Lille over in Ligue 1, having made 28 appearances and scored 18 goals.
The Ivorian has been utterly explosive and has caught the eye of some of Europe’s top clubs.
A few months ago though Spurs were linked with a move for Pepe (The Times), and Mauricio Pochettino really ought to fight hard for the forward.
Lille’s sporting director Luis Campos has recently admitted (to Telefoot via Football Espana) that the club would consider selling Pepe this summer and alarm bells should be ringing for Pochettino
Spurs should focus all their efforts on trying to sign Pepe this summer, because he could well develop into someone in the same mould as Gareth Bale.
Bale ripped up the Premier League during his time with Tottenham, transitioning from a young left-back into a powerful winger.
Bale’s pace and power was largely unmatched, and Pepe has both of things in abundance too.
Pepe has a very similar physical build to Bale, and there’s a chance he could become as dangerous as the Welshman was in English football.
Bale also had a creative streak for Tottenham – his crossing was often on the money for his teammates. Pepe has eight assists this term, which is further evidence of his effectiveness from out wide.
