Tottenham’s interest in Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial rumbles on this week. It got a fresh kick of impetus yesterday when the Frenchman’s agent told RMC Sport that he wants to leave United this summer despite his love for the club.
Spurs have been linked with his services this summer and, when considering the summer of 2015, it is easy to see why.
Three years ago Tottenham were desperate to sign the player. It was reported in numerous circles around England and France that the French attacker was one of Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice targets for the summer.
Back in June 2015, it was even reported that Tottenham had completed such a deal. France Football reported on the 7th June 2015 that Spurs had reached an agreement over a £18 million move for the French attacker. The ‘next Thierry Henry’, as he was then being called, had been scouted heavily by Pochettino and Spurs were ready to bring him in.

It seemed that was premature. The next week saw Sky Sports suggest Spurs had opened talks with Monaco over a deal to sign the young Frenchman, at the time just 19-years-old.
But no deal ever happened.
It seems Spurs were not going to match Monaco’s asking price and, at the end of the transfer window, Manchester United swooped in. The Red Devils paid double what Tottenham seemed willing, with a £36 million deal completed on the 31st August.
Now, wit Martial available again, Tottenham have a second chance at getting hold of a player who could thrive under Mauricio Pochettino’s guidance.
Hopefully, this time, a deal can be found.
