Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho told The Express after their FA Cup exit that midfielder Harry Winks is ‘completely dead’.

The Portuguese boss is short on bodies in the dressing room with several first-team players nursing injury concerns.

After losing on penalties to Norwich City, Mourinho suggested that a run of games has taken its toll on the midfield maestro.

He told The Express: “Harry Winks was completely dead. I think he’s started 11 or 12 games in a row, we had many players in trouble.

“Some of my players were really, really in trouble and they made an excellent effort to try.”

Tottenham face Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday needing to stop the rot sharpish.

They can ill-afford to fall any further behind Chelsea in the race for a Champions League berth with the gap currently at five points.

Tottenham could actually finish the weekend lower than Arsenal in the table and that would represent an alarming slide.

Mourinho must call on his experience to get his players firing; although given the injury problems at the club it won’t be easy.

Winks has been a top performer this season for Tottenham and captained the side during the weekend defeat to Wolves.

With the trip to Burnley followed by their Champions League second leg clash with RB Leipzig, Mourinho would be forgiven for wrapping the £50,000-a-week star in cotton wool.
