The Evening Standard have reported that Tottenham could receive a timely boost ahead of Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash against West Ham. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be fit enough to return.

Tottenham come into the game after producing a brilliant performance against Liverpool, drawing 2-2 on Sunday. Prior to that, Spurs had seen three games cancelled – last playing against Norwich on December 5.

The string of positive tests at Spurs was still evident on Sunday. Hojbjerg was missing, while the likes of Dele Alli, Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele all started in midfield. Oliver Skipp could only last 30 minutes.

The report from the Evening Standard says that Hojbjerg could be about to return action for Tottenham. On Wednesday night, Spurs play host to West Ham in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. Hojbjerg might return.

Hojbjerg boost: But does he start for Tottenham against West Ham?

On Sunday, Spurs arguably produced one of their best performances of the season – as Antonio Conte switched his formation somewhat. Going from 3-4-3, he changed to a 3-5-2 system – Winks anchoring the midfield.

The England international was superb, and having Dele and Ndombele ahead of him contributed to the creativity in the final third. But there was enough bodies to cope with Liverpool’s midfield. Winks might get the nod.

Certainly, it would be harsh on Hojbjerg and Skipp – but Winks, especially in the Cup, might be handed a start.
