Report: Tottenham have asked Mourinho about two of his star players in Ndombele swap
Tottenham Hotspur are shopping Tanguy Ndombele on the Italian market and have reportedly approached former manager, Jose Mourinho, about two of his Roma squad.
According to 90Min, Spurs have asked Mourinho and Roma about taking either Nicolo Zaniolo or Lorenzo Pellegrini in a swap-deal for Ndombele. Naturally, Roma aren’t over enamoured by that thought and it’s claimed a deal for either of the Italians looks unlikely at this point.
Ndombele, meanwhile, has potentially played his last game for Tottenham. He left the field this weekend to a chorus of boos, before going straight down the tunnel. It is the latest in a long line of incidents since his arrival in 2019.
Tottenham’s attempts to get both Zaniolo and Pellegrini seem almost desperate. It is clear that Antonio Conte wants a new midfielder in his squad. However, the thought of Mourinho taking back Ndombele – who he hardly saw eye to eye with – is a strange one.
Spurs’ interest in Zaniolo is long-standing. In fact, as recently as November, it was claimed that Spurs could look to bid for the Roma ace in January.
TBR’s View: Tottenham Have No Chance With This Idea
While Ndombele might have talent, the thought of Roma swapping one of their best midfielders for him is quite baffling. Of course, the report might be wide of the mark in some respects, but you do get the impression Spurs are trying to flog Ndombele to the Italian market.
On the flip side, if this somehow came off, then Tottenham fans would be laughing. Offloading one of your underperforming, high-earning midfielders in exchange for one of Serie A’s best, is the stuff of dreams.
Tottenham will, of course, keep pushing for fresh faces. But they might need to make a few more realistic pushes than the one mentioned here.
