Tottenham are really keen on signing Harry Kane’s £17m teammate, but he’s just signed a new deal

Tottenham are said to be especially keen on a deal to sign Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich – but there has been some bad news.

It was BILD who provided the information.

So, what is the situation involving Tottenham and Mathys Tel? Let’s take a look…

Tottenham dealt Mathys Tel blow

Well – according to BILD – Tottenham are showing a particularly strong desire to sign the France U21 international, who is a teammate of Harry Kane at the Allianz Arena.

Now – however – Tel has just signed a new contract at Bayern Munich.

There were huge doubts over the Frenchman’s future at Bayern Munich given his lack of playing time – Thomas Tuchel has handed the €20m (£17m) striker just one Bundesliga start this season.

That gave Tottenham – and also Arsenal – some encouragement to explore a deal, although after internal talks between Tel and those in the boardroom at Bayern Munich, assurances over game time have been given, and a new contract has also been agreed.

BILD add that the breakthrough in contract negotiations was aided by the fact Tuchel is leaving the Allianz Arena this summer.

Tel – who has scored seven goals this season – initially had a contract until 2027, with his new deal running up to 2029.

Tottenham should continue to track Mathys Tel

While a contract agreement is bad news for Tottenham’s hopes of signing Tel, the north Londoners must continue to watch the 18-year-old.

For all we know, the teenager may also fail to get along with Tuchel’s replacement, opening the door for a potential move in 2025.

Tel is a remarkable talent – reinforced by the fact Bayern Munich spent £17m on him at the age of just 17.

Tottenham would have certainly struck gold, had Tuchel’s reluctance to use the Frenchman ended up with the forward moving to N17.

Nevertheless, Bayern Munich appear to have settled any differences with Tel, so Tottenham will simply have to take a step back – although Spurs should certainly continue to monitor this precocious talent’s development.
