We’re entering the final stretch of the January transfer window, and rumours continue to crop up.
Tottenham, as ever, are at the centre of a lot of speculation right now, and reports emerged on Wednesday morning suggesting that a move for Dominic Solanke could be on the cards at the last minute.
Solanke certainly wouldn’t be cheap, and by the sounds of it, this move isn’t all that likely.
Indeed, speaking on The Done Deal Show, Ben Jacobs has questioned these rumours, claiming that if Tottenham do indeed have the kind of money that would allow them to get Solanke, they would be much more inclined to go and make a move for Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher bid more likely than Solanke
Jacobs shared his verdict on what Tottenham could do before the deadline.
“Well if this was to develop it would tell you that Spurs have money, £50m+ you imagine so I would expect them to be as audacious as they can to get Conor Gallagher for a discount because midfield is the priority. The only caveat to that is if Hojbjerg stays and they believe Solanke is the Kane replacement and you can move now. All indications are that Spurs will bring in a striker in the summer and will look to bring in a midfielder in the final few hours of the window,” Jacobs said.
“Solanke won’t be short of suitors if he waits a few months and Bournemouth won’t be shortchanged if they choose to sell in the summer rather than now. A late bid could surprise us, I wouldn’t rule it out because Tottenham might have the money, but I think they could struggle to get anything over the line for the reasons I’ve outlined,” Jacobs said.
Makes more sense
A move for Gallagher makes way more sense than a move for Solanke at the moment.
Spurs have been in the market for a midfielder all month long, and while they could probably still do with a striker, the word has been that Tottenham will be making that move in the summer rather than in January.
The priority right now at Tottenham is a midfielder, and Gallagher is seemingly the one they want more than any other.
