Ahead of the January transfer window, it’s rare to see both Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United intensely interested in the same player.
Both clubs will be understandably targeting improvements in the window, with both hoping to strengthen their claims for European football.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side have a realistic chance of an immediate return to the Champions League under their new manager.
Whereas David Moyes’ West Ham team are now firmly in contention for Europa League qualification once again.
And having shared summer interest in Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, The Athletic have now shared a new report detailing Tottenham and West Ham’s position ahead of January.
It’s a very peculiar situation that sees Gallagher available, particularly at a fairly reasonable price tag of around £40m.
However, the midfielder who often wears Chelsea’s captains armband would be allowed to go in January, as has been the position in the last few windows.
And via this new report, Tottenham are still said to be watching Gallagher’s situation very closely ahead of a busy window to come.
It would seem that West Ham have slightly cooled their own interest, perhaps on the basis of those they managed to sign in the summer.
Tottenham now more likely than West Ham to sign Conor Gallagher in January
Of course, Tottenham are said to be targeting an addition to each area of their squad in the coming window.
As well as a central defender, which has been the priority for a long while, Spurs also want a midfielder and a forward.

Gallagher would seem a sensible addition, a player Chelsea fans would be surely be very reluctant to see leave.
It it such an odd situation to see a homegrown player wear the captain’s armband whilst also being available for transfer.
However, either Tottenham or the likes of West Ham could definitely profit from the situation in January, a player who could be a stalwart of both projects.
23-year-old Gallagher will still harbour hopes of heading to the Euros with England in the summer, and it’ll be interesting to see how any possible move will affect those chances.
But with Spurs now ramping up their activity ahead of January, it seems they may also have eyes on signing a striker with England aspirations as well.
