Tottenham are in direct talks to sign Adama Traore from Wolves, says Fabrizio Romano
Spurs are now in direct talks over a deal to bring Adama Traore to the club, according to respected transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano.
Traore has emerged as a target for Tottenham in the last few weeks, as Nuno Santo seeks to add pace to the wide areas in his team. The new Spurs boss worked with Traore at Wolves, and knows all about his qualities.
Reports just this weekend, as covered by TBR, had suggested a loan move might be possible.
Traore impressed yesterday when the two sides met, too. He caused the Tottenham defence all kinds of problems and should have scored late on to rescue a point for Wolves.
And now Fabrizio Romano has said that Spurs are indeed in contact with Wolves and Traore over a deal. The winger is one of three wide men on Santo’s list, that also includes PSV starlet, Noni Madueke.
Traore is thought to be valued at around the £40m mark. But after spending over £70m already this summer, it remains to be seen if Spurs will put up that sort of money.
TBR’s View: Traore a threat but £40m a big price
There is no doubt Traore brings pace and power to any team. Most Premier League clubs would love someone like him, so it’s no surprise to see Spurs keen here.
But the £40m price-tag does seem a lot. Traore’s end product leaves a lot to be desire, and you’d expect more from someone who costs so much.
However, Santo knows him well. And if he wants him, then you’d expect he’s seen a gap in his squad for him.
