Tottenham are big fans of ‘extremely combative’ midfielder who plays like Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo

Tottenham Hotspur have a lot of work to do this summer.

The North Londoners have signed Kota Takai and Mohammed Kudus already, which is good news, but they still need more players.

The Morgan Gibbs-White deal looks like it will drag on, which is a shame for Spurs fans, as he would be a fantastic signing for them.

Irrespective of what happens in that saga, Tottenham will need to sign another player, and an interesting name has now emerged.

Tottenham ‘really like’ Kaishu Sano

Tottenham have some issues in the middle of their park.

Yves Bissouma is expected to leave, having entered the final year of his contract, while Rodrigo Bentancur could be moved on too for the same reason.

That leaves a big hole in midfield for Thomas Frank, who was keen to sign Christian Norgaard before Arsenal snapped him up.

Now, Ben Jacobs has claimed that Tottenham are big fans of a very impressive Bundesliga midfielder – Kaishu Sano.

The journalist said on Last Word On Spurs: “Kaishu Sano, who is at the Bundesliga side Mainz, is another player that Tottenham really like.

“He’s an extremely combative number six who is capable of moving between the lines, winning aerial duels, but a bit like Moises Caicedo, is a very progressive passer, who you sort of see a lot of underrated attacking qualities about.

“So he’s not just your standard engine room and ball winner. He’s also very good at, after he’s won it, getting his head up and working out where there’s an incisive pass to be played. And that’s why he is so effective playing in a counterattacking side.

“So, that’s also maybe another name to watch.”

Who is Tottenham target Kaishu Sano?

Sano is a 24-year-old defensive midfielder who currently plays for Mainz 05 in Germany.

A Japan international with six senior caps, Sano only joined the Bundesliga side in the summer of 2024, but he has impressed many with his performances.

Jacobs has described Sano’s style of play very well above. He definitely has the ability to pick out passes despite playing in a deeper position.

That would be really beneficial for Tottenham, who have plenty of runners in their attack capable of causing problems if they get the right pass.

Sano is definitely not the big name Spurs fans have been dreaming of, but he is a very good player and could prove to be a shrewd signing if they can get him.
