Tottenham Hotspur may well have taken a bit of a swipe at Chelsea on social media on Tuesday by announcing on Twitter that their next Premier League game has sold out.

Chelsea were in the headlines once again today. Obviously, there is plenty of uncertainty surrounding the Blues right now following the news that Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned.

One of the repercussions of the news is that Chelsea can no longer sell anymore tickets for games. And they have come in for a lot of criticism on social media following their latest statement.

Chelsea confirmed that they will unable to sell tickets for their FA Cup tie with Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium. Bizarrely, the Champions League holders have asked for the game to be played behind closed doors.

They apparently feel that the sporting integrity is in jeopardy otherwise.

Of course, it does appear that few have any sympathy for Chelsea whatsoever. It must also be noted that they hosted a Premier League clash against Leeds last season where only a section of home fans were allowed to attend as pandemic restrictions were temporarily eased.

Certainly, it would appear that Tottenham have taken note of Chelsea’s statement. Shortly after it was posted, Tottenham announced their clash with West Ham is sold out.

The timing does look to be interesting. And it does seem that some of the fans are suspicious that Tottenham are well aware of what they are doing. The Liverpool Echo’s chief Liverpool writer Ian Doyle was amongst those to suggest a connection.

Plenty of supporters will back Tottenham if they have taken dig at Chelsea

Of course, this is an incredibly complex issue. And once again, some of the fans will lose out.

Having said that, supporters of various clubs would likely be delighted if Tottenham have indeed taken a dig at Chelsea with their tweet.

The two clubs appear to have previous. Some picked up on Chelsea deciding to post the top 14 of the Premier League table back in 2019, when Spurs were that side in 14th.

Many are convinced that Spurs definitely do have an ulterior motive with their update.
