Tottenham Hotspur have announced on their official website that teenager Michael Craig has been released from his contract more than a year before it was due to expire – days after he was linked with a move to a Premier League rival.
Craig had been a stalwart of the under-23 side this season. He had appeared in nine Premier League 2 games. He was also named on the bench in two Europa Conference League fixtures.

It was reported by Hampshire Live this week that Southampton have taken the 18-year-old on trial.
The Saints have signed a number of Premier League youngsters in recent months. Of course, the most notable deal came when they landed Tino Livramento from Chelsea.

And it appears that they may have moved a step closer to completing another signing.
Tottenham have now confirmed on their official website that Craig has been released from the remaining time left on his contract in North London.
It is not reported where he may be going. But obviously, the reports this week would lead many to believe that Craig may be heading to St Mary’s.
Southampton set for transfer coup with Craig after victory over Tottenham this week?
For some, the news would represent Southampton’s second victory over Tottenham this week. Of course, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side beat Spurs on Wednesday night, with a dramatic 3-2 victory in the Premier League.
Craig had been awaiting the chance to make his senior debut at Spurs. But he had taken a step forward in his development this term, becoming a more regular fixture for the under-23s.
Southampton will hope that he can kick on. They also have the likes of Dynel Simeu and Thierry Small knocking on the door. The latter made his senior debut for the Saints in their FA Cup win over Coventry City earlier this month.
Certainly, it would not be a surprise if another announcement on Craig’s future was imminent.
