Darren Bent has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and England goal machine Harry Kane could be tempted with a move to Manchester United this summer – and both Spurs and United supporters have reacted on Twitter to Bent’s claim.
Kane, 26, has been in stunning form once again for Tottenham this season – scoring 17 goals in 25 games. However, in January, he suffered a long-term hamstring injury that has coincided with Tottenham’s 2019-20 campaign going off the rails.
With a place in the top four looking unlikely not just because of Covid-19 stopping football until the end of April at the very least, Kane’s future has plunged into doubt again – given many Champions League sides are likely to want to buy Kane.
Speaking to Jamie Redknapp on Sunday during an Instagram interview, Kane told the former Spurs midfielder that he could decide to leave his boyhood club – but did not rule out staying at Spurs for the entirety of his career, either.
“It all depends on what happens as a team and how we progress as a team. So it’s not a definite I’m going to stay there forever – but it’s not a no either,” Kane said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Kane has long been linked with a move to Manchester United and given his price tag is likely to be a nine-figure fee, United are one of the only clubs in world football able to afford the England captain.
Asked about Kane’s future, Bent told TalkSPORT that Manchester United could prove ‘very appealing’ for Kane – but only if United sign the likes of Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish. Whether United can afford all three, remains to be seen.
“If they add [Jack] Grealish and [Jadon] Sancho and Marcus Rashford – he might look at the situation and think that looks very appealing,” Bent said. “Can they afford him? They probably could – but could they afford Sancho, Grealish and Kane?”
Both sets of fans – both Manchester United and Tottenham supporters – reacted to Bent’s comments. United fans reckon it makes sense for Kane to move to Old Trafford, while Spurs fans commented on Bent being an Arsenal fan.
Here is the reaction from United fans:
Harry Kane to Manchester United. Kane has confirmed he could leave the Club bcuz Spurs are unable to match his ambition.Kane is hungry for trophies & he can't see Spurs winning trophies & progressing as a team. He's rite Spurs is far from winning Premier league & Champions league. pic.twitter.com/xdbHudqzPe

I wonder tongue firmly in cheek if Bent is referring to himself? 🤔😂
Maybe it would be best for Spurs to sell Kane and bring two STs especially as they rely so heavily on him so when he’s injured they Spurs kinda look toothless.

Here are the Spurs fans:
Darren after next season Kane will still have 3 years remaining on his contract so how much will he go for 150m? Who's going to pay that after this crisis? No one will have the money. Even if they did they may look at his injury record and think twice.
