Lucas Alario is in the form of his life for Bayer Leverkusen after scoring another brace at the weekend – and has claimed that Leeds tried to sign him, while his agent reckons Tottenham made an approach. But which club would be best?
Alario, 28, is on fire. The Argentina international has had a hand in seven goals this season during just eight league and cup appearances. He has netted five goals in his last three Bundesliga games, with a brace against Freiburg coming last weekend.
Leeds made one signing from the Bundesliga in the summer, indeed, from Freiburg in Robin Koch. But it appears that could have been two, after Alario told TYC Sports that the Whites made an approach to his agent and the German side for the striker.
“They asked my representative and then the club, but then it didn’t advance much further,” Alario said. Just last his week, his agent told TNT Sports: “We had the chance of Tottenham who are top, but to watch from the bench, it doesn’t work.”

So, which would be better – Leeds or Tottenham? Spurs boast Carlos Vinicius now, signed from Benfica on loan but there is no guarantee that he will join Tottenham on a permanent basis. Indeed, in his second outing he was hooked at half time.
The Brazilian is yet to feature since then, not even in the matchday squad against Brighton. A new striker could be required next summer then and Alario could be targeted, especially after Spurs tried to net him in the summer. Leeds could also remain keen.
Patrick Bamford has started in stunning form but whether that lasts remains to be seen. But which club would be best for the £21.5million (AP News) striker? At Spurs, he would get intermittent game time – like Vinicius is getting at the moment.
His agent summed it up – does he really want to watch from the bench? Or join his fellow countryman in Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds? It is surely a no-brainer if both are interested over the next few months – a move to Elland Road is better than London.
