Tottenham and Arsenal set to battle for Zaha if they can get the asking price down

Tottenham and Arsenal are set for a summer transfer tussle over Crystal Palace speedster Wilfried Zaha, according to the Daily Star.

They report that the north London rivals, as well as Zaha’s former club Manchester United, are all interested in a summer swoop after the winger revealed he wants to play Champions League football.

Zaha has apparently been valued at £75m by Palace, who are in a strong position because of the four years remaining on the Ivory Coast international’s contract.

And both Spurs and Arsenal reportedly want that asking price to come down, sharing the same concerns over the price of a deal for someone who has never played in the Champions League.

Zaha’s failure at Manchester United should not be held against him in terms of assessing his credentials to succeed at a top club.

He was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson but he then retired, meaning that David Moyes inherited Zaha during his disastrous season in charge at Old Trafford, and his treatment by the Scot goes a long way towards explaining why his time in Manchester was a failure.

But he has shown in the time since that he is as good as any player outside the top six and given a second chance to perform at an elite club, he looks well placed to take it.
