Tottenham ace Ben Davies talks ‘quirky’ Gareth Bale

Tottenham star Ben Davies has told The Athletic that it was a pleasure to play alongside Gareth Bale at Tottenham – labelling him as “world class”.

Bale, 32, returned to Real Madrid in the summer after a loan at Tottenham. He scored 16 goals in 34 games for Spurs, laying on three assists.

The 100-time Wales international has only played three times this season. But that is because of a long-term knee issue, followed by a calf injury.

In the three games he was available to play, Carlo Ancelotti handed him three starts – in which he scored against Levante during a 3-3 draw.

Speaking about his loan spell at Tottenham, Davies raved about his Wales teammate and explained how it was fun to have the Madrid ace at Spurs.

“Gaz is a big character. He’s a very funny guy — I see him as a mate more than the world-class footballer that he is,” Davies said.

“It was really fun (having him at Spurs last season). Very quirky in his own way. It’s been a pleasure every time I’ve taken the pitch with him.

“You’re just waiting for him to do something special. He does special things that I haven’t seen many other people do,” Bale continued.

Davies on Bale: Could Tottenham bring him back this summer?

Bale is out of contract at the end of the season, and has previously described Tottenham as his home. So, on a free, could Daniel Levy sanction a move?

Levy would love to have Bale back. The Tottenham chairman is clearly a big fan of the player he initially signed from Southampton in 2007.

However, does he have the work rate required to cope with Antonio Conte’s demands – as a winger? Probably not. Does he fit into a 3-4-3 system?

If Bale converts himself into a striker and is happy to play back-up to Harry Kane, then perhaps on a free transfer – Bale could play for Spurs again.
