Harry Kane scored a hat-trick as Tottenham easily saw off West Bromwich Albion at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
The England striker now has 12 goals to his name this season but it was Tottenham’s dominant all-round team display that will receive the plaudits over the weekend. The home side ruthlessly dismantled West Brom and the abundance of quality and creativity throughout Mauricio Pochettino’s side shone through as Spurs equalled their club record of six consecutive Premier League victories. The Baggies were simply outclassed and struggled to have any impact on the game, having just three attempts on goal and 27% of the possession.
The victory moves Tottenham up to second in the Premier League, at least until tomorrow when Liverpool travel to Old Trafford, whilst West Brom will need to dust themselves down and ensure that their impressive start to the season does not go to waste.
Tottenham’s quality shines through
Mauricio Pochettino’s side came into the fixture on the back of a six-game winning streak in all competitions so it was unsurprising to see his side full of confidence and energy at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Tottenham were completely dominant throughout the contest, passing the ball with pace and purpose (73% possession) and creating goal scoring opportunities almost at will (21 shots). Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli provided innovation in the final third, Kyle Walker and Danny Rose gave Spurs width and creativity in wide areas, whilst Harry Kane was continuously a threat in and around the eighteen yard box. It was an impressive all-round display and the hosts were unlucky not to have won by a much larger margin.
Spurs have now won all of their last seven fixtures in all competitions and if they can replicate this performance on a consistent basis then they may just offer a genuine threat to Chelsea at the top of the league.
