Tottenham 3-2 Everton: Three things we learnt

Tottenham are getting close to becoming title contenders

The work that Mauricio Pochettino is doing at Tottenham doesn’t get the credit that it deserves. He has built a young, hungry and talented team with a relatively low net spend, which continues to improve on a monthly basis. Their victory over Chelsea was their best performance of the season, but they are very consistent and their change to a 3-4-2-1 formation has had a remarkable impact. They were the much better side this afternoon and they should have won by a bigger margin.

They started with a team that was nearly at full strength, with Danny Rose being the only notable absentee and they played Everton off the park until the 80th minute. Pochettino will be angry that they let the visitors back into the game, but the overall performance was strong. This season has come a little too soon for them to challenge for the title, as the gap between them and Chelsea has grown too big. However, if they make a couple of quality additions in the summer, they should be competing to win the Premier League next season.
