Tottenham 3-2 Everton: Three things we learnt

Add as preferred source on Google

Two defensive lapses made the closing stages tense for Tottenham, but they were easily the better team and deserved the three points against an in-form Everton side. Harry Kane continued his incredible form with a brace on Sunday afternoon, before Dele Alli wrapped up the three points. The 3-2 scoreline flatters the visitors somewhat as Spurs were dominant for the majority of the match. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have now consolidated their position in the top four and have retained a small chance of winning the Premier League. Here are three things that we learnt.

Harry Kane is taking his game to a new level

His two goals today have taken him to 14 goals in 12 appearances this calendar year, which is an excellent return for any player in the world. The game took a while to get going, but a wonderful strike from Kane ignited the contest. Although he has no right to beat Joel Robles from that distance, the fact that he did highlights the confidence that is exuding from his game at the moment. This match was billed as Kane vs Romelu Lukaku, as both have ambitions to win the Premier League golden boot, but it was the Tottenham man that came out on top, moving ahead of the Belgian in the process.

The England international is beginning to take his game to a new level and the next test is for him to perform on the Champions League stage. Kane was disappointing in the competition this campaign, but he should have the opportunity to test himself against Europe’s best again next season and it is important that he takes it. This should be the third successive season that the 23-year-old has passed the 20-goal mark in the Premier League. That is an incredible achievement and he is making yet another step forwards in his development. It is going to be exciting to see how far he can go in the game.
